Look, we're not naive. We know this is a thing no matter how much we wish it wasn't. But the thing is...that doesn't mean we like it. IC drama is great; please don’t be douchey to each other OOC. This includes IC/OOC blur. If there is a problem between players OOC please speak with the mods. This should be a good playing environment and harmony between the players is nice. Mods will do their best to help resolve any problems that exist, but we highly recommend players attempt to work out their issues among themselves first. Every game has cliques and we understand that...but that said, we're not every game. Lets all play with one another and try new things. Don’t just try to play with canon-mates or your OOC bff. Everyone wants to play! If we find that players are playing exclusively with other specific players as opposed to branching out as well, mods reserve the right to (and probably will) warn and/or remove you and your character(s) from the game. No one wants to watch you play a PSL in the game’s setting and exclude everyone else from your fun. We understand that players with similar writing styles and characters that click will obviously have lines with one another; that’s fine. But no exclusivity, that’s no fun. That’s what PSLs are for, after all.
Obviously a no-no. Don’t be a jerk. If you don’t ask the other person before puppeting their character and we find out, instant ban hammer. No ifs, ands, or buts. We’re not okay with this. If you do have permission from the other player to godmod their character, please make a small ooc note like the example below to let us know:
Due to the nature of the game and the fact that there is no way on the InsaneJournal server to set communities with content disclaimers for casual viewers, we ask that all players lock their smut logs down. If a log that you've posted begins to slip into NSFW territory, please make sure that you lock it. In the interest of both the privacy of the players and the general legality and internet safety of minors who may wander in to look, we would prefer to make this content unavailable to people not participating in the game.
Yeah, you’re in a new place that your character isn’t used to and there will be some changes that come with that, but no, you can’t have your grumpy bad ass suddenly skipping around the island singing happy songs; no, you can’t have your canonically snarky person turn into a total crybaby at the drop of a hat.
We are aware of the fact that there are several fandoms with multi-verse. Comic books, for example, are notorious for this. We are all right with more than one version of a character, provided each is coming from different source material. For example, it's fine if we have Clark Kent from Smallville and Clark Kent from DC Comics. Marvel Cinematic Universe is considered one fandom, in this game, so we cannot have Tony Stark from Iron Man 3 and Tony Stark from Avengers; these are the same version of Tony in the same source material, from different canon points. Likewise, we would not accept a Kol Mikaelson from The Vampire Diaries and another Kol Mikaelson from The Originals, because these are spin-offs and the character is still the same character from different canon points in spite of the different actors portraying him. If you're not sure, please ask us.
You’re expected to be active in this game. Don’t sit on a popular character just because you like them. The whole point of role-playing is to actually play. We’re not asking for a lot of activity, but if you’re found to be consistently eeking by activity checks by the skin of your teeth, your character will be removed from the game, anyway, to allow someone more active the chance to give that character a try, period, end of sentence. We have a zero tolerance policy with character hoarding and we're not going to be shy about giving you the boot if you're doing it. Hiatuses are there for a reason (but abusing the hiatus system is just as likely to send you packing as inactivity, so use them sparingly).
In the same vein as character hoarding, mods reserve the right to deny a hold request (temporarily or otherwise) from a player who has other characters in game that appear not to be meeting activity requirements. We also reserve the right to use our discretion on the length of time we require a player to wait before processing hold requests or applications based on a player's current roster and activity levels. Questions in reference to this should be addressed to the mods directly via email.
1 log per month (may be smut or regular), and one other piece of activity which can a be a log, a network, or comments to someone's net post.
Sometime during the last week in every month, mods will post a check and all players who are not on a hiatus are expected to check in with links pointing to their activity for that month. If you haven’t tagged your posts, it might be harder for you to sift through activity to find your own character(s) to qualify for it. So, you know, tag your shiz. It makes life easier for everyone and helps keep the communities organized, anyway.
Everyone’s had a muse go quiet on them. That’s okay and no hard feelings. Please drop your character if you’re not feelin’ it anymore. That said, if you drop a character they will be freely available for game play, so we’re not holding them for you. Anyone is free to pick up that abandoned character. If that character is still available and you would like to pick them back up, re-apply for them and they may be reinstated on a case by case basis. You will be permitted to decide whether or not they retain their memories from their previous stint in the game. In a similar vein, if you are picking up a character who was already in game but was played by some other player, you are welcome to peruse their tags and retain those memories, or you're more than welcome to reset the character and have them forget their time in Paradiso, just keep in mind that if you choose to retain their memories, other players who had lines with the former player of your character are not expected to keep those lines in tact; that will be the other players' choices entirely.
Going out of town? Is it the holidays? Finals? Real life is getting intense? The mods definitely understand that. We know that real life comes first over a game, so don’t feel bad, just let the mods know how long you are going to need, but you have to communicate with us for us to know anything. We don’t need to know if you’re going to be gone for a day or two unless it is near time for an activity check; then it’s a good idea to let us know. Please don’t abuse this policy. If we find that you’re taking your hiatuses near activity checks or if you’re going on hiatus more often than you’re not, we reserve the right to ask you to leave the game. You can reach us via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or via the mod drop box.A hiatus of more than a week may be used for ONE piece of activity for AC. This is for each character that you have.
To start, players are limited to 3 characters. After that, you may add more characters at mod discretion (usually determined by your current characters' activity levels) until you cap at 10. Speaking of mod discretion, if we find that your first two characters, for example, aren’t being very active, we reserve the right to ask you to drop one of them to add another rather than allow you to expand your roster to three. You may have up to 2 characters per fandom. They may not be characters that would normally interact on a semi-regular to regular basis (For example, Carol Peletier and Daryl Dixon from The Walking Dead, or Damon and Elena from The Vampire Diaries). They may not both be specific to one other character in game (For a more specific example: If player A has Tony Stark from MCU, player B cannot app both Pepper Potts [love interest] and Bruce Banner [close colleague]). We also reserve the right to deny a player more than one character per fandom depending on the number of available characters in that fandom.
Canon puncturing is not negotiable. This is a panfandom game and it will be much easier for someone like Clark Kent/Superman to adjust to being known as a fictional character to someone than it would be to bring in a character like Sheldon Cooper or Stiles Stilinski and try to juggle keeping them in character while somehow not recognizing Green Latern or Batman as fictional. We would rather Superman squirm a little bit than remove an entire piece of Sheldon or Stiles' personality, you see what we mean? Therefore, every fandom character in the game is puncturable.
Major life changing events like pregnancies, deaths, and plots or actions that will affect more than just your character are things that need to be run by the mods. A good rule of thumb is if it can cause a stir or will negatively impact the game at large, talk to the mods first. Mods reserve the right to say no to any of these plots. You never know; the mods might be planning a game wide plot that could throw a hitch in things or, for that matter, that’s almost exactly the same as your mini-plot. So communicate, it’s good for you! If you have ideas for game-wide plots, please let us know! We’re totally open-minded and interested to get your ideas to see if we can put them effectively into motion. Keep in mind, we're not looking to micromanage you. If your vampire plans on turning another character into a vampire, for example, and the other player is cool with that...we’re not going to say no. We just like to be kept in the loop. In an instance like that, just drop us a line to tell us rather than ask permission. The same is true for deaths.
Congratulations, it's a girl! ...or a boy! ...or twins!
Villains are wonderful; they make everything a great deal more interesting and fun in a game. Children, too, can be interesting in a game. However, this is not the game for them. This setting is calling for a society to come together and build a new civilization and it seems unlikely that the powers that be would choose to inject a villainous character set to destroy it, nor would they be likely to place a child in the setting when they have little to nothing to contribute to a growing society. Assholes are cool, teenagers (within reason) are good to go; villains and children, not so much. If you're not sure about your character's villain status, please ask for guidance from the mods.
Ships are totally fine and it makes sense for some characters to bond under the circumstance, but if you’re coming into this game specifically to ship monogamously and we notice you’re doing so (things like specifically asking for those types of lines in your intros (or in response to the intros of other new players), ONLY talking to characters of the opposite sex [if your character is het], etc), we reserve the right to ask you to leave. This is a smut game with the premise revolving around recreating and populating a civilization, so strictly monogamous relationships right out of the gate kind of make that a little more difficult, yeah? It's not a shipping meme. Check out bakerstreet or rockthatmeme for that sort of thing.
Your characters will all awaken with a communication device (see video example of use here!) and any network communication done with it belongs on the network community. However, there are two other uses for this community, beyond the comm devices characters have on their person:
